MISSION STATEMENT

To transform Zimbabwe through use of information and communication technologies into a knowledge based society so as to enhance the
country’s competitiveness in the world in order to stimulate and sustain economic growth

OVERALL FUNCTIONS

  • Create an enabling environment for creation of an e- knowledge based society that transgresses across all levels of society;
  • Developing, in conjunction with the relevant ministries, a strong ICT human resource base in the country;
  • Spearhead the development of appropriate regulatory frameworks that facilitate the promotion of information communication technology, telecommunication, postal and courier services;
  • Champion and promote ICT literacy and utilization in the country in order to enhance regional and international competitiveness as a nation;
    Champion, promote and coordinate national ICT research and development of cost effective software, hardware and infrastructure so that it reaches best international standards;
  • Develop supportive and enabling infrastructure to ensure equitable access to ICTs by all citizens including disadvantaged groups and rural communities;
  • Conduct and support research on the availability, use and impact of ICT across all sectors of the economy;
  • Evaluate economic and social impact of e-based information dissemination;
  • Research on availability and evaluate use and impact of ICT, telecommunications, postal and courier services across all sectors of the economy;
  • Introduce and enforce stringent quality of service standards in the provision of ICTs;
  • Create a conducive environment for investment in the areas of ICTs through public private partnerships in all sectors;
  • Supervising public and private owned ICT service providers to create and manage the robust, nation-wide and efficient ICT infrastructure and services; and
  • Developing and maintaining international links that ensure early and timeous adoption of new developments in ICT.
